Quick fixes

The recording is silent, or Tonband says no app audio was captured

macOS hasn't given Tonband permission to record other apps. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording, turn Tonband on (under "System Audio Recording Only"), then quit and reopen Tonband.

My microphone isn't recorded

Check System Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone and make sure Tonband is turned on. In Tonband, confirm that "Include microphone" is ticked and the right input is selected.

My Bluetooth headset sounds like a phone call

Recording a Bluetooth headset's microphone switches it to its call mode, which lowers the quality of everything you hear. Choose your Mac's built-in microphone in Tonband instead. If the headset stays in call mode afterwards, turn it off and on again.

An app is missing from the list

Apps appear once they're running. If one is missing, start playing something in it and open Tonband's menu again.

Where are my recordings?

In Music › Tonband. You can also open the folder from Tonband's menu: click the gear icon, then Open Recordings Folder. Recordings with separate tracks are saved as a folder with one file per app and one for your microphone.

My Mac crashed or restarted during a recording

Tonband writes recordings in a crash-safe format. Open Tonband again and it recovers the interrupted recording into Music › Tonband automatically.

Recordings stop after 10 minutes

That's the limit of the free version. Tonband Pro removes it: click the reel in your menu bar, then Upgrade… at the bottom of the menu.

Restoring Tonband Pro on another Mac

Tonband Pro is a one-time purchase tied to your Apple Account and shared with your family via Family Sharing. On another Mac, click Upgrade… and then Restore Purchase.
